On Saturday, March 3rd, we learned with great sadness of the passing of great philanthropist Jacqueline Desmarais.
Ms. Desmarais has been supporting the music world for many years and Jeunesses Musicales Canada has been lucky enough to be among the beneficiaries of Madame Desmarais' great generosity. Her passing saddens us especially as it happened on the day the Semaine de la musique JMC, an event she has contributed to for the last two years, was set to begin.
Apart from her contributions to the Semaine de la musique JMC, Ms Desmarais also made generous donations to the JMC Foundation, thus contributing to the organisation's perennity, and she helped, alongside her good friend Joseph Rouleau, to collect other key donations.
Joseph Rouleau, honorary chair of the Jeunesses Musicales Canada board, remembers : « She was a great friend to me. She was a remarkable person, a friend of youth and music. »
We are extremely grateful and appreciative of her outstanding and enduring commitment to the arts, and especially to music. Jacqueline Desmarais has lifted up the Canadian musical scene; may her dedication be an inspiration to us all.
