CANCELLATION OF THE PETER MENDELL AWARD 2020

Montreal, May 1^st, 2020 – Following the Quebec government’s announcement to cancel or postpone all events and unnecessary gatherings, the Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation is committed to maintaining the public health and safety of all. In order to maintain wellfare, protect our public and ensure the well-being of our artists and partners, it is with sadness that we have taken the decision to cancel the 16^th edition of the Peter Mendell Award, the grand finale of which was scheduled for October 3, 2020

About the Peter Mendell Award

The Peter Mendell Award rewards a full-time string student (violin, viola, cello or double-bass) registered in a classical music performance program at a Québec university, or completing their 3^rd, 4^th or 5^th cycle at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec. Established in 2005, this annual award bears the name of its founder, Peter Mendell, an influential lawyer at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg and a true music lover who is an enthusiastic cellist in his spare time. He established the Award in association with the JM Canada Foundation to foster the development of musical excellence, and offer a $5,000 scholarship to the winner.

The JM Canada Foundation is a charitable organization that has been supporting the mission of JM Canada for over 35 years. As a partner, it supports their educational mission of broadcasting by proudly contributing to the career development of young classically trained musicians and the production and broadcasting of Young Audience concerts.
