Montreal, February 1, 2024 – The Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation (JM Canada Foundation) announces the start of nominations for the 19th edition of the Peter-Mendell Prize. With an excellence scholarship of $5,000, this prize rewards a string student (violin, viola, cello, or double bass) enrolled full-time in a classical music performance program at a Quebec university or in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th cycle at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec. Additionally, the two other finalists will each receive a $500 scholarship.
Candidates must be 25 years old or younger by May 17, 2023. Applications, including video recordings and a letter of recommendation from the instrument teacher, must be submitted online by May 17, 2023, on the JM Canada Foundation website. Only solo or piano-accompanied recordings are accepted.
Three candidates will be invited to perform in a public final on September 29, 30, or October 1, 2023, which will conclude with the presentation of the Peter-Mendell Prize and its various scholarships.
