Montreal, Friday, March 28, 2025 – Jeunesses Musicales Canada (JMC) announces its final Happy Hour Concert of the season, on Thursday, April 3, in Joseph-Rouleau Hall at the André-Boubeau JMC House. A rising star in contemporary classic music in Canada, Gabrielle Gagnon-Picard invites you to discover the Canadian repertoire in a new concert for solo piano. Revel in her sensitive interpretation and soak up the creative power of works by Impressionist and contemporary composers from the last 100 years. Alongside the music of Debussy, this unique and audacious recital showcases the richness of works by Auguste Descarries and the ever-active Alexina Louie. Spice up your Thursday evening and join in celebrating our 75th anniversary, and the 40th anniversary of our Foundation! Great music guaranteed!

Artist biography :  

 Gabrielle Gagnon-Picard, a rising star in contemporary classical music in Canada, has recently completed her studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, specializing in piano performance. Under the guidance of the renowned contemporary music specialist, Louise Bessette, Gabrielle earned a Diplôme de Perfectionnement in 2022 and a Master of Music in 2021. Prior to her time in Montreal, she achieved a Bachelor of Music with distinction from the University of Alberta in 2019, studying with Dr. Jacques Despres In 2022, Gabrielle won second place in the Eckhardt-Gramatte National Music Competition. In the same year, she was the only Canadian pianist selected to perform at the prestigious Orleans International Competition. 

She has been a guest artist in concert series throughout the country, including the ECM+ (Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal) concert series, the Vivier Interuniversity series, and the Edmonton Chamber Music Society (ECMS). Her notable achievements also include receiving the annual Auguste Descarries Award in 2022, an AIDA scholarship from the JM Canada Foundation, an Excellence Prize from the Conservatoire de Montréal in 2020, and the Edmonton Chamber Music Society Scholarship in 2016.
